چکیده
Abstract This study jointly optimizes the production capacity and safety stocks in a serial production–distribution system supplying multiple products under guaranteed service approach (GSA). The network comprises one manufacturer operating workcenters, warehouse with limited storage capacity, retailer. must efficiently allocate to workcenters budget, while retailer need maintain achieve target level. For single workcenter processing product, interaction between lead time, inventory costs, stock placement is characterized. When has integrated problem formulated as non-convex program solved using nested Lagrangian relaxation heuristic. algorithm dualizes constraint first phase budget second phase. A simulation conducted assess value of integration, computational experiments demonstrate that heuristic can identify optimal or near-optimal solutions reasonable CPU times.

Bounds and Asymptotics for Planning Critical Safety Stocks
We develop bounds and approximations for setting base-stock levels in production-inventory systems with limited production capacity. Our approximations become exact as inventories become critical, meaning either that the target service level is very high or the backorder penalty is very large. Our bounds apply even without this requirement. We consider both single-stage and multi-stage systems....
متن کاملHospital capacity planning: from measuring stocks to modelling flows.
The metric of "bed numbers" is commonly used in hospital planning, but it fails to capture key aspects of how hospital services are delivered. Drawing on a study of innovative hospital projects in Europe, we argue that hospital capacity planning should not be based on beds, but rather on the ability to deliver processes. We propose using approaches that are based on manufacturing theory such as...
متن کاملStrategic safety stocks in supply chains with capacity constraints May 2008 , revised January 2009
We generalize the guaranteed-service (GS) model for multi-echelon safety stock placement to include capacity constraints. We first develop an extension of the single-stage base-stock model to include a capacity constraint. We then use this result to model a multi-stage system with a base-stock operating policy. We establish that we can adapt the existing algorithms for the unconstrained case to...
متن کاملA Note on Runway Capacity Definition and Safety
The following is a discussion on the different aspects of the term capacity as well as a brief look at the commonly used capacity definitions in industrial and operations engineering in general and in Civil Aviation in particular. We maintain that quality factors (including more specifically here, safety) must be explicitly considered in runway capacity definition, and accordingly, we provide a...
